The month of April is usually such an upbeat month with the winter in the rear view mirror and flowers in bloom signal the beginning of spring. This year drought stricken California got temporary relief from drought in the form of a flood, the southeast and hurricane alley ended the month with deadly hurricanes and the rest of us had to look back on a very strange month.
You just can’t make this $#!^ up.
Here in my home state of Nevada Bunkerville rancher Cliven Bundy now holds daily press conferences to dazzle all with his profound knowledge and command of the English language.
Political notables such as Harry Reid and Dean Heller debate the validity of the Bundy claim. While the militia and his sons rush to Bundy’s defense his distant cousin Donald Cliven Sterling hit the news; but, I am getting ahead of myself. Let’s go back to the beginning of the month.
You knew the month would be racially charged when March madness wound up leading to this early April proclamation from Fox New’s Heather Childers that “The Ucon Huskies are the 2014 NAACP national champs.”
The amazing Huskies won both the NAACP and the NCAA.
Also in basketball news new NBA commissioner Adam Silver stepped up and spoke out against the racially charged remarks of Donald Cliven Sterling the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers. Silver’s action was fast and strong. Sterling was fined $2.5 million and banned for life from Clipper games.
Back to Cliven. It would be easy for me to cheer for good ol’ Cliven. I am a frequent critic of government overreach but I just can’t understand the fascination and support for this moron. Is he a domestic terrorist as Harry Reid would state? I don’t think he qualifies alongside the Tsarnaev brothers or McVeigh and Nichols or even Reid. My opinion is that the senator has, as usual, overstated his case. But I do agree with Reid (did I just say that-shoot me now) he needs to pay the same fees as all other farmers pay to graze his cattle and 13 children on the BLM land.
As for the Militia, they are not patriots Dean Heller. Patriots wear our uniforms and defend us around the world from those that could bring us harm. Patriots are among us and will protect us and enforce the laws not tote guns in defense of a free loader. Is he a racist, yes and new NBA commissioner Adam Silver spoke out against Bundy and his actions and banned him from all Clipper games for life along with Sterling.
If the militia want to take up a case of individual land rights go to Texas where there is a real battle to be fought.
Speaking of battles there appears to be a major one in store for the successor to Cliven Sterling as the owner of the Clippers. From hip hop stars to tv stars to former NBA players everyone wants to own the Clippers. A group consisting of Oprah, David Geffen and the entire cast and contestants of America’s Got Talent is the favorite to win what will be a tough battle. No mayor Goodman please don’t try to bring them to Las Vegas the Rebels can provide all the disappointment we need from a basketball team.
In Business, the month ended with the DJIA at record highs. Interest rates continue to be ridiculously low and new Fed Chief Janet Yellen has committed to keep reductions in bond purchases on track of $35 billion next month. As long as you pour gas on the flame it will burn. Utility stocks reach yet higher highs than I have ever seen and growth stocks are starting to see the end is in sight. Speaking of the end…
It appears that the end is insight for American Pension Services and their founder Curtis DeYoung. Mr. DeYoung has been accused by the SEC, among others, of stealing over $22 million from his clients. These are people that have entrusted him with their retirement dollars. If he is proven innocent great. If guilty, may he rot in Bunkerville and be banned from all Clipper games for life.
I like to end on a positive note so congratulations to James Winston (the most recent Heisman winner). Jameis was arrested for shop lifting. This pretty much cements Winston as the #1 pick in the National Felons League draft. Nice going Jameis.
